An experience on my first day @ Infy MyDC

Celebrating 1st year @ Infosys
An experience on my first day @ Infy MyDC

12th July 2009 – This was my reporting date at Infosys Mysore. It was around 12pm I decided to leave my house at namma Bengaluru to begin my corporate journey (training) at Mysuru. My mom, dad, brother and my cousin all decided to drop me to the Heritage City. We all decided to go in our car. As I was about to leave my house, I saw all over my home sweet home. Then, I called up my grand-parents to inform them that I’m leaving to Mysore. I could hear them being a bit sad that I would be staying far from my house for the first time. Anyways, they were happy for me that I would be starting my career. As we were about to leave, my mom started weeping. She was so much worried as to how I would stay alone and look after myself for around 6 months at Mysore. I and my father calmed her and finally we left to Mysore.
We reached Mysore in around 3hrs and then headed towards the huge 343acre campus of the great organization – Infosys. There was a long queue near the gate where all the new trainees were standing for entering the campus. The luggage checking and some document verification were going on at the entrance of the gate. We quickly had some food outside the campus. Then, my parents accompanied me till the gate and waited for me to enter the campus. Finally, I entered the campus with my luggage. The first thing I saw there was the huge monument called the GEC 2- Global Education Center. Next, I found an interesting dome-like structure – it was the Multiplex, where they played latest Hindi and English movies on the weekends. It was almost like a mini city. I saw few of my friends waiting in the queue. After waiting for around 2hrs in the burning sun, I reached my Hostel room.
I’d got my room key – B92 128. This building #92 was at the farthest corner of the campus. All the guys got single rooms and the ladies got shared rooms. As soon as I entered my room, I was astonished to see that it was not like an ordinary hostel. It was more like a star hotel. The room was well furnished with all the facilities that one would wish. It was an AC room with a neatly arranged bed with a clean blanket and a bath-towel. There was a study table with study lamp, a huge wardrobe, two extra drawers next to the bed, LCD Television, hot water kettle with packets of milk powder, sugar, tea bag and coffee powder. There was also an attached bathroom with 24hrs hot water supply. I was very glad to see this superb room. I wasn’t expecting that the hostels would be so nice and clean. I was very happy and quickly took some pics to show it to my parents, who were still waiting for me near one of the food courts. Meanwhile, my brother and my cousin waited outside the campus, since only parents were allowed to enter the campus.
The campus was so huge that, going from hostel to the classrooms took half an hour by walk. There were around 3000 cycles all over the campus for 12000+ trainees. There were lots of Ladybird cycles there and a very few Hercules cycles. I quickly took one of the cycles standing outside my hostel and started heading towards my parents. It was a pink ladybird cycle. I drove fast in the pollution-free campus which had very neatly tarred roads. My hostel was newly built at that time and some painting work was going on outside the hostel on the foot-paths. After riding for around 5 minutes, I parked my cycle near the Multiplex. I asked 2-3 security guards standing there to show me the way to the food court where my parents were waiting. Now, I walked for about 5 more minutes and reached the food court. After searching for some time, I found my parents there. They were having some snacks in the meantime. They too were very happy after seeing the awesome campus and the pics of my hostel room. There was also an open amphitheatre just outside the food court. There was some discussion going there. I was amazed to see one of the most important people there. It was none other than Mr. NR Narayana Murthy – the chairperson of Infosys. It was the first time I was seeing that great person.
My parents were about to leave now as it was getting late. Also, there were my brother and cousin still waiting outside the campus. I accompanied them till the gate and bid good-bye. I went back to my room and started unpacking my luggage. I kept all my belongings in the wardrobe and was only thinking as to how the training will be for the next few months of my stay at Infosys.
This was my experience on the first day at Infosys MyDC – Mysore DC. I completed one year at Infosys now. Infy – the place to be…  :-)  :-)

Two Years Ago on 09-04-2008

Two Years Ago on 09-04-2008

Today, the 9th of April, is an unforgettable day in my life. I was in the sixth semester two yrs ago, on this very same day. This is a special day to me and my friends. What’s so special about this ??
          --The Speciality—
It was on this day that I became a member of a new family called “Infosys”. It was on this day that Infosys had come to our college for recruitment of freshers. This day is a very special day in my life.

It was a fine Wednesday morning. It was the first time I’d went early to college. It was 7:45am when I and my friends reached college. We were eagerly waiting for the Infy officials to start the recruitment process. It was the second company which had come to our college after TCS. I and my friends were very disappointed for not getting placed in TCS and we were very eager to join this company. We had been preparing well for the written aptitude round from around a week. Finally started the recruitment process.
First, the officials gave us the application forms and also the instructions to fill the form. It was the first time I saw this process being conducted so methodically. The TCS recruitment which had happened was done without proper flow in their process. We filled the form with various details and moved to give the aptitude test.
There was a written round containing aptitude questions, some numerical problems and English vocabulary. I felt the English section very easy. The aptitude part was also ok. It was almost 1:30pm when the written test got over. Now was the time to decide my luck. We waited for around an hour for the results to be declared. That day, none of my friends had their lunch. Finally came the time of announcing the results of the first round. I was very happy to hear my name announced in the results list, though some of my friends were not able to make it up.
Next was the HR round, which went on very smoothly. All the HR officials were very friendly with us. Since it was my first interview, I was a bit nervous. The HR round was just for 15 minutes. All of the selected students finished their interviews by 5pm. I finished my interview by 3:30pm and was just waiting for the results to be announced, without eating the whole day.
Finally, after a long wait, the results were declared at 7pm. A total of 107 students got selected and were filled with joy. I was so much happy that I couldn’t believe that my name was being called out in the final list. I also asked one of my friends whether my name was really called out or not.
I was regretting why I didn’t get placed in TCS.But now, I don't. Proud to be an Infoscion.
