How To Save A Scratched CD ??

How To Save A Scratched CD ??
          How could smearing a paste on the surface of your CD save the data that lies within? Why not just dip your CD in ketchup, jelly or dish soap for that matter? The truth about the toothpaste claim comes out when you take a look at how a CD actually works.
          Each of the major layers of a typical CD are displayed here. When you flip over a CD and hold it up to the light to look for a scratch, what you’re looking at is the “thick” Polycarbonate Plastic Layer. The word thick in used, because it is 1.2 mm.
Now, when you play a cd , you are actually reading it using the Laser light . The data in a cd is arranged in terms of pits and lands (analogous to 1's and 0's) in Aluminum Layer. So the data is not stored in the outer layer of the cd as many think but in one of the inner layers.
If you follow the path of the laser beam through the clear plastic layer, you’ll see that it strikes the aluminum (or reflective) layer. This layer bounces the light directly back to the CD reader. As the CD spins, the time it takes for the light to reflect and return tells your CD ROM whether or not there’s a “pit” or “land” (Obviously the time taken for light to come back from a pit is more).

As the CD spins and the laser is busy scanning the pit data pattern along each track and decoding the information, when it hits a significant scratch in the polycarbonate surface, the laser beam is deflected just enough so that the pit data pattern is misread.
Now, normally for very small or occasional scratches, this isn’t a huge deal because the data on the CD and the CD drive circuitry has an integrated error-checking code system to handle the occasional misread bit here and there. However, when the scratch is significant enough so that the laser beam misreads a large batch of the track, the disk either skips or becomes unreadable.

Toothpaste To The Rescue :

A lot of people testify that rubbing toothpaste (either with a soft cloth or a cotton swab) along the scratch has the ability to correct the problem described above. Does this really work, and if so – why? The answer is: Yes. It works, and it works well.
First, when you place a dab of toothpaste on the scratch (preferably baking soda or other “gritty” paste, not gel) and rub the paste into the scratch from the center of the CD outward, you are essentially “sanding” down the imperfection on the surface of the polycarbonate plastic layer. By sanding away the imperfection, you’re removing deflection of the laser beam, and by doing so you’re correcting the problem. Of course, before you attempt to do a “toothpaste buff,” always make sure to wash off any dust and fingerprints from the surface of the CD.

Now dry it off with a soft cloth, and always wipe the CD starting from the center and outward toward the outer edge of the CD. This will reduce the chance that you’ll introduce any additional scratches across multiple tracks. Once the CD is clean and dry, you’re ready to buff the surface with toothpaste.

Apply again a dab of paste (not gel) to a cotton swab or soft cloth and apply it directly to the scratch. Rub the toothpaste in small circles (like you’re buffing a car) along the length of the scratch.

After a while, you’ll notice that while you’ve created some very fine surface scratches, the deeper scratch has either grown faint or entirely disappeared. Don’t apply too much force when you’re “sanding” the scratch – a gentle circular motion is all you need to buff it away. When you’re satisfied that the scratch is either gone or reduced enough to make a difference, put the CD through another gentle rinse and dry.

And thus it is possible to fix a scratched CD with toothpaste!

Memorable Golden days at MyDC

Memorable Golden days at MyDC… Missing them a lot…
       It was on 24th December, Thursday morning when I start packing my luggage to leave my room at MyDC. I got up a bit late, with no mood to leave my room. I met all my friends the previous night at Oasis Food Court and we all enjoyed that final night at MyDC (Mysore DC) chatting, teasing and discussing all important as well as unwanted stuff. That night is the most memorable one. We took pictures, hugged each other, laughed and laughed for the jokes created by friends, played Dumbsharacts, got whistles from security guards for making noise and finally came the time to leave the FC.
       I started packing my luggage by dumping whatever I found. I finished all the packing by 1:30pm. I then had lunch and came back to my room for checking out from there. I was feeling sad to leave my room, which had become my home for the past 6 months. I saw the Samsung LCD TV, the kettle which v used for making all kind of stuff, my Black Color Infosys Mug, the study table, the study lamp, the bed, the sofa, the chair, the Infosys Clock, the non-working AC, the telephone which I had got just 3 days back, the safety locker which I had got only on that day, the wardrobe, the Infosys towel, the large mirror – I looked at all these and felt sad to leave my room. Anyways, for one last time, I saw through the window and finally locked my room. The house-keeping guy Nanjundappa helped me in keeping my bags outside my building. I finally kept my luggage in the luggage van and reached the reception block.
       I was not feeling to return my room keys there. But anyways, I gave my room keys and my multiplex card to the lady over there at the reception and finally got my Black tag from the security guard. My friends came to meet me there and finally said Good-Bye. We were 4 of us - Shanmuga, Nagarjun, Sridhar and me, leaving in a cab. Our cab Tavera came at 5:30pm, and finally I started to leave the awesome campus. I felt very sad to leave the campus at that moment. Each time I went home in the weekend, I felt very happy. But this was the first time I felt very sad, going back home. I even searched my pockets for the room keys suddenly and then, I remembered that I had returned them back.
       I was thinking only about the Mysore campus while returning home. The Loyal world where we got all our stuffs, the saloon, the ECC building, the gymnasium, the table-tennis hall, the snooker pool, the bowling alley, the badminton courts, the yoga room, the carom room, the cricket playground, the basket-ball court, the Multiplex, the bridge we used to cross to reach to reach our GEC, the ATM counters, the swimming pool, the tennis courts, the library, the palace-like cave called GEC2, the food courts, the Gazebo, the triangle-like ILI building, the blow of whistles by the security guards, the red Hercules cycles, the pink Ladybird cycles, the 3 hour long time spent to buy tickets at the multiplex, the late birthdays we celebrated at night, and last but not the least, our classrooms at the GEC where we spent most of our time.
       But anyways, I’m very happy that I came back to namma Bengaluru, my hometown. My mom had prepared lots of eatables and I enjoyed them a lot… My bro who was feeling alone those days started dancing with joy for me :o)

Why do people irritate others ???

Irritating people
          This incident happened in my 10th standard. All the school-leaving students had been taken to Woodlands resort for a One-day party. We all had our breakfast, played some games, took photographs of each other, teased friends, sang and danced with lots of joy. By the time we did all this, it was afternoon. All our teachers told us that we can go to the swimming pool to play and cool ourselves, since it was too hot as summer was fast approaching. My friends and I removed our shoes, took all the necessary costumes and got ready. We were ready to jump into the water for playing. One side of the pool, the water was quite deep and the other side, not much. I didn’t know how to swim, but still I wanted to play in that water   :o)

       When all of us were ready to jump into the pool for playing, one of my friend: “Uday Simha”, told that he had forgot his swimming wear and wanted to borrow from someone. He was an irritating fellow (atleast for me) and used to always irritate people. Now, this friend of mine started asking me to finish playing asap & lend my swimming wear to him. I didn’t want to lend him, as I wanted to enjoy the remaining time in pool itself. But this fellow wouldn’t leave me. He came wherever I went (like the Hutch Network :D ) following me.

       Atlast, he went out of sight and I was very happy. My friends knew swimming and few of them started jumping/diving into the pool. I was watching people jumping and swimming for a while. By looking at them, I also ran and jumped into the pool (without realizing that I didn’t know how to swim). It was late that I realized that I was actually drowning… My friends who were playing in the pool also didn’t realize that I was drowning.

       Now came my irritating friend (The Hero at that moment, I can say) asking for my swim-wear. Even he didn’t know that I was drowning. He simply lifted me from the pool and started demanding my swim-wear. I was feeling so much frightened, that I gave him my swim-wear and sat quietly for some time.

       I got this thought when I remembered that I’d irritated one of my friends recently. So I felt that, “IF SOMEBODY IRRITATES YOU A LOT, THEN SOMETHING GOOD IS GOING TO HAPPEN FROM THEM”. No matter if you like that person or not, it surely won’t harm you in anyway…  :o)  :o)

Two Years Ago on 09-04-2008

Two Years Ago on 09-04-2008

          Today, the 9th of April, is an unforgettable day in my life. I was in the sixth semester two yrs ago, on this very same day. This is a special day to me and my friends. What’s so special about this ??
          --The Speciality—
          It was on this day that I became a member of a new family called “Infosys”. It was on this day that Infosys had come to our college for recruitment of freshers. This day is a very special day in my life.

          It was a fine Wednesday morning. It was the first time I’d went early to college. It was 7:45am when I and my friends reached college. We were eagerly waiting for the Infy officials to start the recruitment process. It was the second company which had come to our college after TCS. I and my friends were very disappointed for not getting placed in TCS and we were very eager to join this company. We had been preparing well for the written aptitude round from around a week. Finally started the recruitment process.
          First, the officials gave us the application forms and also the instructions to fill the form. It was the first time I saw this process being conducted so methodically. The TCS recruitment which had happened was done without proper flow in their process. We filled the form with various details and moved to give the aptitude test.
          There was a written round containing aptitude questions, some numerical problems and English vocabulary. I felt the English section very easy. The aptitude part was also ok. It was almost 1:30pm when the written test got over. Now was the time to decide my luck. We waited for around an hour for the results to be declared. That day, none of my friends had their lunch. Finally came the time of announcing the results of the first round. I was very happy to hear my name announced in the results list, though some of my friends were not able to make it up.
          Next was the HR round, which went on very smoothly. All the HR officials were very friendly with us. Since it was my first interview, I was a bit nervous. The HR round was just for 15 minutes. All of the selected students finished their interviews by 5pm. I finished my interview by 3:30pm and was just waiting for the results to be announced, without eating the whole day.
          Finally, after a long wait, the results were declared at 7pm. A total of 107 students got selected and were filled with joy. I was so much happy that I couldn’t believe that my name was being called out in the final list. I also asked one of my friends whether my name was really called out or not.
          I was regretting why I didn’t get placed in TCS.But now, I don't. Proud to be an Infoscion.

Money, Love, Life (MLL)

Money, Love, Life (MLL)
          The 3 things which play an important role in all our lives, in some or the other way are :
1)    M -> Money
2)   L -> Love
3)   L -> Life itself
MONEY –The more money you have, the more problems arise. Money is good only if we have how much is required. Excess money results in losing everything, except money.
LOVE – Love is necessary in all our lives. Love should be given and taken, only if it is required. Excess love results in losing the people whom we love and care.
LIFE – Life itself plays an important role with us. Many things change from time to time, including the people around us. People change themselves according to the changes happening with MONEY and LOVE. People become too selfish and greedy, as and when there is more MONEY and more LOVE. This leads in losing the relationships by the misunderstandings created.

In general, ANYTHING IN EXCESS IS NOT GOOD……
ಅಮೃತನು ಜಾಸ್ತಿ ಕುಡಿದರೆ ಅದು ವಿಷ ಆಗತ್ತೆ...

Women

Women

            Women – are the most important people in all our lives, be it in the form of grandmother, mother, sister, wife or a friend. They have an important role to play in all our lives. They face lots of difficulties in life than Men face. Woman is considered as the living Goddess. Mother takes care of her children, the grandmother takes care of the entire family, a sister loves her siblings, a wife looks after her husband for her lifetime and a friend becomes a part of our life.

          I took this topic for this reason: I see a lot of pregnant ladies in our campus. They have to take care of lot of things. Firstly, they have to take care of their child more than taking care of themselves. Secondly, they need to concentrate on their work, even while looking after themselves. Thirdly, they have to look after their family after going home. Last, but not the least, they have to concentrate on themselves as what food they have to eat and precautions needed. This reminds me of how my mother would have taken care of herself before I was born, how she looked after me in my childhood(and also now J ), how she cares for me till this age, how she overcomes the various difficulties faced in the family, etc. etc… She takes care of me more than she cares for herself. Whatever I’m today is all because of my mother’s care. This happens with all the mothers and their children.

          There can be a bad child. But you won’t find a bad mother in any part of the world. A child may not take care of his mother properly. But, a mother always cares for her children, all the time, be it in the most difficult situation as well. This blog is for all you ladies who care for others, more than yourselves.

Playing Pranks

An incident on Fool’s Day 2005

I remember one incident which happened 5 yrs ago during my 2nd PU board exams. We had just completed our Botany exams on 31st March, 2005. I and my friends had studied Biology with great difficulty the whole year, with those complicated tree diagrams, plants structure, mitosis, meosis (all in a confused way) and all types of creatures in Zoology. It was the most difficult of all the subjects, we felt. We really hated that subject. Somehow, with great difficulty, we completed this hating subject and were expecting good results.

On April 1st, we had Mathematics exam. Preparations were in full swing with me and my friends, as it was the most favorite subject for us. I got up early in the morning and started revising that subject. Suddenly, I remembered that it was fools’ day. I thought of playing a prank on one of my friend, Shashi Shekar.

I sent him a message that there was Botany re-exam in the coming days, as the papers had been leaked out. I told him that it was also put up in the newspaper. He was really shocked for this news and maybe was also cursing to write the same hating subject once again. However, after sometime I told him that I’d fooled him. He’d really got scared and immediately called me and asked me if I’d got time to fool him on an examination day. Though I played this prank, he also enjoyed becoming a fool
:o)

I reminded him of this incident and he still feels happy of becoming a fool on that particular exam day.

Any incident or a prank which makes us happy is always remembered.
:o)

Mother's Love

Love Again --> Mom’ Love

There were two neighbors, staying in a city. Each of them had a son of the same age. The son of the first woman was very fair and that of the other woman was just the opposite (dark complexion).

Mothers always speak nice about their children to others. The mother of the fair child used to speak about his son like this: (ನನ್ ಮಗನ್ ನೋಡು- ಎಷ್ಟು ರಾಜ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಥರ ಬೆಳ್ಳಗ್ ಇದಾನೆ... ಅವಳ್ ಮಗನ್ ನೋಡು.. ಎಷ್ಟು ಕಪ್ಪಗ್ ಕೋತಿ ಥರ ಇದಾನೆ...) “Look at my son, how fair and cute he is… So much fair as a Rajkumar… See my neighbor’s son – so darkish and bad looking he is, like a chimpanzee… My son is the best…!!! “

Look at how the mother of the darkish child speaks about her son: (ನನ್ ಮಗನ್ ನೋಡು- ಎಷ್ಟು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮುದ್ದು ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಥರ ಇದಾನೆ.. ಅವಳ್ ಮಗನ್ ನೋಡು.. ಒಳ್ಳೆ ಬಿಳಿ ಜಿರಳೆ ಥರ ಇದಾನೆ) “Look at my son, how cute he is, similar to Lord Krishna… He’s so lovely… See my neighbor’s son – he’s like a white cockroach… Anybody will hate to see such a creature… My son is the best…!!!”

However her child is – good or bad, a Mother looks after him/her more than her life. Never ever hurt your mother. She is the only living Goddess in our lives…

All mothers think in this way ->

ತನ್ನ ಮರಿ ಪುಟ್ಟ ಮರಿ, ಪರರ ಮರಿ ಕಾಗೆ ಮರಿ...
